An Unseen Compliment

I have a fun character in one of my stories who seems to stand out in my mind.  I think I might have done an okay job bringing him to life.  For the sake of this post, I will call him “Jimmy”

My wife has read the novel-in-progress and has seemed to enjoy it.  Anyway, we were on a road trip this weekend, and she saw a guy from the car window.  She yelled at me “there’s Jimmy!”

I looked over, and sure enough, there was the physical representation of the character I wrote.  What made it cool, was that she thought the same thing. Unprovoked.

I guess that means that a got it down on paper just like I wanted.

  1. That’s awesome. I think you nailed it.

  2. yeah, it was kind of surreal, and a cool feeling.

  3. Oh, it gives me the shivers when that happens. it’s wonderful!

  4. Was this a stranger who was the image of the character you wrote, or did you base it on someone anonymous and yet your wife worked out who ‘Jimmy’ really was?

it was a stranger. The character itself was pretty stock I am sure. But just to see some dude on the side of the road and have someone else say the name from the story was surreal.
